Brett's Boring Blog

Check in to see what books I'm reading, what music I'm listening to and the vintage baseball gloves and bats I'm finding at flea markets and antique shows.

This is why we can't have nice things (yes there are two) :

Friday, November 25, 2005

Here are some pictures from our Thanksgiving day feast for two. After dinner, we headed over to the movies and saw "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." This is my favorite book in the series and I had high hopes for the film. It was very well done. The graveyard scence with Voldemort is excellent - just the right amount of creepiness. They did rip off a couple of things from Star Wars movies but Rowling has "borrowed" so many things from Lucas already that most people probably wouldn't notice. Kristin enjoyed the movie as well but she said it wasn't approriate for kids.

Duke escaped tonight. I was impressed by the freshman - I though they played well. I wonder why Pocius didn't get more time in the second half - he was playing really well. I hope that Nelson isn't too seriously injured - they are saying a hairline fracture - they need his rebounding and defense out there. We'll see how they play Friday.

If our turkey turns out all good tomorrow, we'll post delicious pictures for everyone to see.

A couple more things to add to my Christmas list for those interested:
-Simpsons Season 7 DVD
-Family Guy Vol. 3 DVD
-Bright Eyes - Motion Sickness CD http://www.newburycomics.com/rel/v2_viewupc.php?storenr=103&upc=89834800062&pt=1
-Sudoku puzzle books or electronic Sudoku

Lots of trade rumors in MLB and the NBA today. Kristin enjoys reading celebrity gossip, I enjoy reading trade rumors. I wonder who's making the moves for the Red Sox and their trade with the Marlins. They have no GM now so I guess some of the higher ups are making this happen. If Lowell rebounds and has a good season, I think it's a really good deal for them. I'm sure Travis disagrees but oh well. The oldest brother is always right.

Here is a picture we took yesterday of Maggie, Scratchy and Rowdy - they like sitting on the chair and watching the birds in the tree.

We went to the Chicago Sun Times Sports show tonight. Picked up a couple nice gloves and one Christmas present. Kristin was enthralled with the actors from "A Christmas Story."

I reached 500 for my Ebay account. yay! 1000 here, i come (estimated time of arrival, 2010).

Duke looked awesome on Wednesday night. They should get a test from Davidson tomorrow but I'm confident they'll pull it out.

Duke had their first game tonight. Not too impressive for the first showing but there were some positives. The defense did a pretty good job the entire night but the offense was way off. There were a ton of open shots that were missed and I don't understand not going down low more often. They couldn't stop Williams so why night get him the ball more. Give Boston University credit, they played the game they wanted to play - slow and boring - but it worked for the most part. Hopefully Wednesday Duke will play much better.

Won the football pool at my school again this week. That is the fourth time this year. I also increased my overall lead in the point standings to over 80 points. I just have to be consistent the rest of the year and I should take the end of the year jackpot.

Here is a picture of Rowdy and Maggie from this evening. They were sleeping together on the step near our bedroom so we had to take a picture. Aren't they adorable?

I love these 3 day weekends! I can get a lot done. Today I got all of the leaves raked and the lawn mowed. Of course, it started raining later and now there are leaves all over again. I don't know where they came from because our trees were bare, that's why I did them. It's supposed to be really windy tomorrow so hopefully they blow away.

When I went to Sam's Club the other day there was a sign reminding me that Christmas is only 40 some odd days away. So, that means I need to get to work. I started on our year end compilation - have the tracks picked out and ready to go, started on the artwork. This evening I worked on our Christmas card picture. I guess that means we are in pretty good shape.

And I know I sent my Christmas list off already but as I see things I like or remember things I forgot, I'll add them here. Sudoku puzzle books would be nice and when I was in Target today I saw they had Operation but with Homer!

I thought the Simpsons Halloween special was really funny tonight. The bit about baseball at the beginning was funny (well, maybe not for Cubs fans). I really liked Quimby as Mayor McCheese - that was classic!

Another Bears win today - four in a row! Should pick up another against San Fran next week and then the real test against Carolina since they've been hot the last couple of weeks as well. Wonder how I'm doing in my football pool? I got a 11 out 12 so far today. :)

Had fun out the Kane County Flea market today. Was disappointed that there weren't a lot of dealers but it was nice to be out and about. Picked up a couple gloves and a bat. Flea market/Antique show season is winding to an end. Time to start working on my Christmas list!

saw wilco last night at the auditorium theater in chicago. i guess we've seen them to much because the show was pretty boring. we've gotten to the point where we know what song is going to be played based on the guitar they bring out. and i don't get why people like "spiders" - it's fine hearing it live once but after that it's annoying. glad that the new orleans muscians get the funds but the wilco set was definitely not worth the $50 price tag.
