Brett's Boring Blog

Check in to see what books I'm reading, what music I'm listening to and the vintage baseball gloves and bats I'm finding at flea markets and antique shows.

I had a fun past couple of days. On Tuesday night I had the opportunity to meet one of my favorite authors, Jon Scieszka. He, of course, is the author of such great books as "The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales" as well as "The True Story of the Three Little Pigs." He spoke for about 20 minutes about his thought process and upcoming projects he is working on - I found him very entertaining. After the talk, he was kind enough to take a picture with me, sign my book and talk about his "Guys Read" project. I'm glad I went!

Yesterday Kristin and I headed up to Richardson Farm near the Illinois-Wisconsin border to take on the world's largest corn maze. We were successful in finding all 24 checkpoints in the 25 square acre maze. It took us just under two hours which we thought was really good. I also found Elvis yesterday - he lives in a cat hotel in Richmond, IL.

Duke basketball practice started on Friday night. This season brings the youngest Duke team since the 1940's with only one junior and no scholarship seniors. There are a lot of exciting players on the team this year and I'm looking forward to Coach K going 10 deep off the bench this year. This most likely means an uptempo game which should be fun to watch. I can't wait!!

I guess it's about time I updated this thing...

Let's see, I'm not teaching PE anymore, I'm a media specialist now. Kristin and I are going to be an aunt and uncle come May. I'm having surgery at the end of the month. The Bears are wrecking every team that comes their way. My fantasy football team is wrecking every team that comes their way. I'm reading tons of books. I've found some decent vintage sports equipment over the past month but nothing super. Our basement flooded twice in the past two weeks. The new Decemberists album is very good. So is the new Ben Kweller. The new Killers cd is ok. The Vintage Baseball glove forum is picking up steam - yay! Duke basketball practice starts in less than a week. And maybe most exciting, "The End" comes Friday, October 13th! :)
