Brett's Boring Blog

Check in to see what books I'm reading, what music I'm listening to and the vintage baseball gloves and bats I'm finding at flea markets and antique shows.

Go Bears! Chicago has been a force to be reckoned with in the National Football League so far this year and they continued their winning ways with a victory over the NY Jets today. Not the prettiest of games but a win is a win. Tough one next weekend in New England.

Had fun at the Sun-Times Sports Collectable show on Friday evening. Was able to pick up some nice gloves and one bat. It seems everytime I go, there are more gloves to be bought - I like that and hope it continues.

Duke plays against Air Force on Monday night. It should be a pretty good test and I'm anxious to see how the freshmen do with their first road game. Air Force runs a discplined offense and has some really good shooters. However, I don't think they can match the size of Duke or the athleticism. I'm predicting a Duke victory but you never know.

Off to Florida on Wednesday. Yay!

Duke basketball is back and it's time to get excited. Didn't get to see the game Sunday night because we don't get ESPNU but was anxious for tonight's contest on ESPN2. Offensively, the team started slowly but started clicking towards the end of the 1st half and continued throughout the second. I was very impressed with all of the freshmen - they each bring something unique to the court. Scheyer is very smart and makes excellent choices - he is also a fantastic shooter - he might give JJ's free throw % a run for it's money. Henderson is so athletic - he has a good mid-range jumper and can take it to the hole - I thought his free throw stroke looked nice even though he missed a couple. Thomas is pure energy - I LOVE IT! Zoubek didn't play too much tonight but had a great first game - tonight's matchups really didn't allow him to show his skill set. Paulus is still recovering from his injury and make some shaky decisions tonight but I'll say that is due to not practicing the last month. McRoberts started off looking like crap but pulled it together late in the game. McClue, Boykin and Pocious all impressed me with their energy and rebounding. Nelson was fantastic - I hope he plays like that every game. Overall, I'm excited about this team - they showed their youth at times but played great defense - GA Southern hit some lucky shots early and then couldn't buy a basket as the game progressed. As the team matures they will become dangerous. Watch out ACC!

For any team that is playing UConn this year - make sure that you don't try to win - apparently Jim Calhoun is not a big fan of teams trying to beat his squad. Shame on you Quinnipiac for playing different types of defenses.
