I don't know if anyone else has noticed but for some reason, the umpires in the World Series are wearing a patch that says "CW." I couldn't figure out what it was for until Dye got "hit by a pitch" last night. Then it dawned on me - the S on end of the patch must be obscured. :) Seriously, I don't really care who wins but get the White Sox keep getting every break so they must be destined to win.
Just want everyone to know that Kristin is watching a show on MTV now about Laguna Beach. Guess it's one of her guilty pleasures that she didn't want the general public to know. Oh well.

Finished the last book before the last book in the Lemony Snicket series today. When is the rest of the world going to realize the genius of Snicket and stop praising J.K. Rowling for being so special. The Unfortunate Event series is so well written - the humor is very sharp and you have to be paying attention to get it. Plus, Snicket doesn't spend endless pages talking about "snogging" while the world goes to crap around everyone. In 50 years, Snicket will be king and Rowling will be a footnote - mark my words!
Had a nice dinner at Sullivan's in downtown Naperville tonight. Definitely ate too much food but it was really good!

A first for me - I picked all of the correct winners in our school's football pool this past weekend. This was my third win of the season! Hope I keep up the smart choices.

Almost done with my weekend class - tomorrow is the last day. Yippee!
Lots of good sports on today. I was trying to watch them all at one time - very difficult to do with only one TV. Managed to catch the end of the baseball game, Michigan/Penn State and Notre Dame / USC. All of them were exciting! Kristin's alma mater, Northwestern, won another Big Ten game today. If they didn't blow the last 2 minutes of the Penn State game a couple weeks ago, they'd be undefeated in the Big 10. My school, NIU, managed to win their homecoming game today and I didn't have any difficulty leaving campus when class was over.

Last night of softball tonight. We won the first game in extra innings, 18 to 16. I managed to go 5 for 5! Second game, we lost a low scoring thriller 3 to 1. I managed to go 2 for 3 in this one. Had lots of fun although I hurt my left quad early in the first game so I think walking tomorrow is going to be a struggle!

I got a lot done over the long weekend but still wish I had some more free time. This coming weekend I have class (last weekend!) so I have to wait a little while before I have some free time. Tomorrow evening I'm playing softball again. It's lots of fun but I'm always a little sore the next couple of days - must be that old age thing. :)
Finally finished one of the Sudoku puzzles today. Yes, it was a gentle one but I'm got it done in about 12 minutes. They are lots of fun! I still love the crossword so now I have to things to work one between reading the comics.

At least the baseball game this afternoon and the golf tournament were exciting - none of the football games were very good. I wish Daly could have made his putt at the 16th so we could have seen some more great shots at 17. Oh well. And what about the Braves/Astros game. I was watching it for a little while but the Astros were down 6 to 1 so I went out to do some yard work. I came back in and it's the 14th inning! 18 innings total - man, the people there get two games for the price of one. I was hoping it would have gone on longer so we could have seen some positional players pitching - that would have been cool!

Last night I played in 2 softball games and we won both. The first game was a 23 to 12 victory and the second was low scoring- 19 to 11. First game I came up with 3 hits, 2 RBI's and a couple runs scored. Second game, only 2 hits and 1 RBI but 2 more runs. Had lots of fun even though temperatures were hovering around 40 degrees.
I hope my mom and dad are ok. The Red Sox just lost so I hope Hurricane Travis doesn't do too much damage. Duke basketball practice starts in just one week and we all know the Blue Devils are poised to take home the NCAA championship this year.

Tonight I made my Illinois softball debut. We won the first game by forfeit because the other team was short a player. He finally showed up and we started the second game. I'm not sure the final score but we won by 8 or 9 runs. I was 2-4 with an RBI and no errors manning right field. Get to play again Thursday night - should be a little different game because it's supposed to cool down a bit.

Sorry for my lack of posting lately - I'll try to do a better job keeping up this week.
Saw a couple of movies over the weekend. We got "Crash" from the library and watched it on Friday night. It had gotten a lot of good reviews and I thought it was really well done. It's kind of depressing but interesting and enlightening. The two lessons I got were 1) Don't assume you know what motivates someone or assume what they will do in a situation and 2) All people in LA are jerks. Last night we went to the movies to see "A History of Violence." This movie had gotten great reviews but I was disappointed. I can't put my figure on why I wasn't that impressed but it was as "suspensefull" or "thrilling" as some of the reviews made it out to be. To me, it was very predictable. The violence was very gory so if you have a weak stomach, don't say I didn't warn you. Finally, after we got home last night we watched the new Family Guy movie. It was very funny. Make sure to set the DVD to uncensored before you watch it!
Yesterday I went out to the Kane County Flea market and had a pretty good day. Picked up a couple of gloves, a neat old Worth ball in the original box (see picture) and 21 Japanese baseball
jerseys. Yes, you read that right, 21 Japanese baseball jerseys. I will probably keep a couple of them (not to many of them fit) and try to recoup my investment but selling the others. If you are interested in one, drop me a note. :)
This week I don't have any classes - my professors are attending a conference in Pittsburgh so I don't have to make the trek to DeKalb at all. Yay! I am playing softball on Monday and Wednesday evenings - both doubleheaders. Maybe I'll wear one of my new Japanese jerseys.
