Brett's Boring Blog

Check in to see what books I'm reading, what music I'm listening to and the vintage baseball gloves and bats I'm finding at flea markets and antique shows.

Today I went up to Medinah Country Club for the practice round and my training session on how to work the public scoreboard. I got there early and did a bucnh of things - I watched the players on the practice tee, I walked most of the course, and checked out the merchandise tent. After walking around I have a couple observations to make. The course is absolutely beautiful. Any regular golfer would be lucky to break 100 playing from the tees the pros are playing on. And finally, the commercial for the PGA that says "These guys are good" is the biggest understatement on televesion. These guys are wicked incredible.

The 17th hole is going to be a real treat to watch - the green is tiny, narrow and right next to the water. The 13th hole is equally intriguing - 244 yard par 3 over the water! I was amazed at how small and narrow the greens on this course are - there will definitely be a premium on accuracy this weekend.

No Tiger sightings today but I did get to watch a Adam Scott play a couple holes as well as Davis Love III, Corey Pavin, Tom Lehman, JJ Henry (the Nutmeg State's contestant), Jesper Parnevik, Geoff Ogilvy and a hole bunch of others. There were tons of people trying to get autographs - souvenir flags and hats seemed to be the objects of choice. The sad thing was seeing grown-ups pushing kids out of the way to have a better shot at a signature.

Tomorrow I'll be working the public scoreboard in the morning, as well as Saturday and Sunday afternoons. Make sure to look for me on TV - I'll be wearing a blue shirt.
